Billboard final draft

1st draft billboard

When we first started making the trailer we thought it might be more effected to only have the male characters and the brick background. However after asking people to watch the trailer and then comment on this billboard draft we decided that audiences felt the billboard did not captured the other main story line in the soap, of Mason and Kate. Because of this we decided to stick to our original billboard design which captured every character.

Billboard poster planning

When designing our billboard we decided that we would have a brick wall as the background because of the connotations it gave. We wanted audiences to know the soap was based around working class teenagers and we felt by having a brick wall instead of a fancy house as the background this would give the better effect. We also decided to include every character so that the billboard could be continually used even if the main characters or story lines change because all the characters are on the poster. However we did want it to reflect our current soap opera trailer and so decided to have the 3 male characters central to reflect the conflict growing between them. We wanted the character Kate to be behind Mason and next to Dylan to show the link of friendship between the girls and the relationship between Kate and Mason. This was the same for Bree and Johnny. Although Dylan's character doesn't have a big part in our current soap opera trailer we wanted to make sure we captured her sensitive caring character.

Bamford Arms soap opera trailer final draft

This was my completed final trailer before I got any audience feedback. From my audience feedback I realised viewers were confused as to what my character Kate was suppose to be doing as she appeared to jump around the time frame. Another editing point I considered was make thought beats with the music and the transitions.

This was a practice run of creating a billboard poster using screen grabs from an episode of Hollyoaks. When I create my poster I will have to use photoshop to place the E4 styling onto the poster, where as in this draft I only used microsoft publisher which does not allow a professional finish.

Song choice for trailer

I decided I wanted to use this Passion Pit remix instead of a sadder song because I decided that although the characters in my soap opera trailer appear to be having a bad time I wanted to show how they are still teenagers and that anything they do now wont completely change their lives. I picked the Passion Pit remix because I felt it's fast pace and beat reflected a song that could be played at a teenage house party- which reflected the life style of the teenage characters.
